In the Numancia Market (Calle Josefa Díaz, 4) there is a stall -specifically number 10- that is familiar with breaking records: La Coqretería de Vallekas. In January 2023 it took a curious title: that of the restaurant with the largest ham croquette in the world after preparing one that weighed more than 7.5 kg. And for some time now and until June next year, he is immersed in another challenge: that of producing 100 flavors of croquettes.
The figure is not trivial: there are 100 flavors as a tribute to the 100 years that Rayo Vallecano celebrated in May last year. They explained it this way in an Instagram post from June 2024: “We want to celebrate these 100 years of Rayismo together with all our people. And for this we have set ourselves this challenge: from today and for a whole year we will publish 2 new croquettes flavors per week until we complete 100 flavors“.
At the moment they have published flavors such as meatless chili, truffled parmesan, zucchini cream, torrezno de Soria, goat cheese with tomato and pizza margarita. These flavors, they explain, will be on the menu as soon as they are announced and until the end of stock. You can check them out on their Instagram profile.
Offer for the World Croquette Day
On the other hand, every January 16 World Croquette Day is commemorated and to celebrate it they have launched a promotion with which you can take 8 croquettes for 6€, to consume on the premises with two drinks. Normally their prices for croquettes are as follows:
- 4 croquettes for 5€.
- 8 croquettes for 9€.
- 15 croquettes for 15€.
Although croquettes are their specialty, at the stall -which you can reach by public transport by getting off at Portazgo metro station- you can find craft beer, tortilla and other homemade dishes, such as bravas, sandwiches and desserts.
