Madrid does not lag behind Barcelona and Valencia when it comes to showing its devotion to bravas, and it proved it this weekend at its first Bravas Fest. For three intense days, from October 10 to 12, Madrid’s Autocine became the national epicenter of the Spanish ration par excellence: bravas.
In this first edition, the event offered tons of potatoes, liters of beer, and the opportunity to taste the best bravas in the city.
Nine restaurants participated in the festival, each with their own particular version of bravas, from the traditional to the most creative proposals. Each restaurant put all its effort into demonstrating that its bravas were the best in Madrid in a contest that was defined by three prizes: the jury’s, the public’s and an honorable mention.
In addition to choosing the best bravas in Madrid, the event also hosted a special contest to crown the best bravas in all of Spain. Competing with the winners from Barcelona (XinVic) and Valencia (Grupo Trinquet), Taberna dNorte (Mesonero Romanos, 8) was awarded the best of all, consolidating Madrid as the home of the best bravas in the country.
The distribution of the best bravas awards
A jury made up of industry professionals including Lucía Mos and Pedro Pineda (Madrid Secreto) or Jenkin’s chefs Javier Sancho and Ángel Carrero. Their prize went to Taberna dNorte, which presented a spicy aioli sauce of ñoras, choricero peppers and chiles.
The public award went to Rosi la Loca, which recently won the prize for the second best bravas in Spain. And the honorable mention went to Docamar. The classic Madrid bar whose bravas are a reason for pilgrimage.
