Bravo Murillo street, which in a not too distant Madrid was known as the Gran Vía of the poor, faces a substantially different future in the section between Cuatro Caminos and Plaza de Castilla.
The residents of Tetuán have been demanding for years a change for the street that connects the six neighborhoods of the district. And it seems that the imminence of that change is more real than ever. The media Tetuán 30 Días reported at the beginning of the week that “the last Plenary of the district has approved up to three proposals of the Proximity Council of Tetuán related to this main axis”.
Three options to change Bravo Murillo
The three proposals have yet to be approved by the competent bodies and aim, on the one hand, to declare the street Special Noise Protection Zone, the redesign of two pedestrian crossings and the periodic pedestrianization of the aforementioned section.
The proposal is born in imitation of what is already happening in sections of streets such as Prado or Fuencarral. This elimination of vehicular traffic began to be carried out during the de-escalation in order to guarantee the safety distance in the promenades. And it is usually carried out on Sundays.
The Proximity Council has called for the closure to traffic between Cuatro Caminos and Francos Rodriguez on Sundays from 9am to 8pm. The intention is to promote physical activity, leisure and to encourage local commerce. The petition has been approved by all the political groups except for Vox, which has abstained.
