The music scene has just suffered a tremendous earthquake (although there had already been several premonitory earthquakes) with the announcement of Amaia Montero ‘s return to La Oreja de Van Gogh. After a series of prolonged silences, more or less obvious rumors (like the unfortunate declarations of Cayetana Guillén Cuervo), the band confirmed Montero’s return to the voice of LODVG with an official statement on their website.
The singer declares: “To return together to the rehearsal room and feel that everything is still here, that time was waiting for us where we left off”. However, it will not be as “together” as one might expect, since in this same note they also inform about the departure of Pablo Benegas (one of the founders of the band): “Although he is still part of the band, he will retire for a season in order to enjoy more time with his family and explore new professional challenges”.
The date chosen for this announcement, October 15, sounded like a premonition for the band’s fans: it was October 14, 2024 when they announced the departure of vocalist Leire Martínez. And now, 366 days later, they report the return of Amaia Montero, 18 years after her departure.
La Oreja de Van Gogh with Amaia Montero in Madrid?
“It’s been a year here in San Sebastian, our hideaway in the world, writing new stories and also remembering all the previous ones,” reads the statement. It would be logical to think that they will return to the stage in the city where they were born and united musically (at least twice in the band’s history). The note continues:“Soon we will tell you more details and news, but we needed to raise our hand and tell you that yes, we are here and that the horizon is full of magical nights like those in which your passion and our songs were mixed in an unforgettable spell”. The tour is confirmed. But when will it arrive in Madrid?
Madrid, that city that has seen so many artistic reinventions, could be the stage where LODVG’s new page is written. Just a year ago, we saw Montero again on stage in Madrid: it was at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium as a guest at Karol G’s concert with whom she sang Rosas. More than 60,000 spectators witnessed her reappearance and chanted this song.
Many doubts arise now, before the next tour that, we hope, will be announced soon: when will the concerts be announced? Will it be a tour of stadiums or intimate venues? Will there be surprises, such as collaborations with other artists? Will the repertoire take us back to the band’s origins or will it be the presentation of a new album?
