The story could begin with Tito Gómez, owner of Urumea (Calle de Cochabamba, 7), wanting to bring a little piece of Asturias to Madrid… and end up bringing a subway. Specifically, one meter of cachopo.
The one-meter-long cachopo (or distance) that has been prepared in Urumea for some years now could be included in one of those categories entitled “emblematic dishes of Madrid“. And this is due to a great virtue: its visual appeal makes it appealing to all circles – from friends to family.
Tito Gómez, soul of Urumea, says: “Few dishes make equally enjoyable for children and their parents. It doesn’t fail, they always take out the cell phone and take pictures that both upload to their networks”.
how is the one-meter cachopo?
Such is the success of this dish (to call it somehow) that there are even figures to back it up: 150 cachopos de metro are sold a week.
The classic option costs 100€, includes a starter, three bottles of cider or one bottle of wine and the cachopo itself. Kilo and a half of meat, Iberian ham and three cheeses (la peral, Afuega’l pitu and another one that melts) wrapped in a crunchy batter.
And additionally there is another possibility that is baptized as the tricachopo menu. It has the classic option; another with Burgos blood sausage, roasted peppers and Iberian ham; and another with jerky, goat cheese and caramelized onion. This option costs 120€.
Urumea also boasts spoon dishes, different types of meat, dishes such as hake in cider or, even if it is not in season, bean stew. They also have starters such as tomato from Navarre, Russian salad or homemade croquettes.
