Christmas is the time of wishes with little chance of being fulfilled. When December arrives, the queues to buy lottery tickets become constant in Madrid, where advertisements and shop windows incite to dream of a sudden change of life.
Although the lottery is the most traditional bet, there are less demanded options (and that, therefore, give more chances of winning a prize), such as the Gran Cesta de Reyes raffled by El Paisano, a steakhouse in Utrera (Seville) that in 2024 offers such succulent prizes as an apartment in Sanlúcar de Barrameda; three motorcycles; two cars; a motorhome; a smartphone; more than ten appliances; four mountain bikes and up to five legs of ham among others, and will be won by a single winner.
This year, the basket will be won by the buyer or owner of the ticket with the main number (without the series) of the draw held by the Spanish National Organization for the Blind (ONCE) on Sunday, January 5. Anyone who wants to buy ballots for the Great Basket can do so in the restaurant itself or through the website of El Paisano. Each one is priced at 10€, and up to 100 of them can be purchased per person.
El Paisano’s Christmas hamper, valued at more than 300,900 euros, is the largest in Spain. The steakhouse has been preparing it since 2008, surpassing expectations every year with its massive prizes.
