Update: a first information from the organization indicated that the festival would be held on the weekends of 19 and 21 and 26 and 28. Finally only the 26 to 28 will be held.
Madrid has a special relationship with patatas bravas. And if there is a place to pay tribute to it as it deserves is in the bars, of course, but during this month the bar is transformed into a competition stage. Or in a multiplicity of bars that are in a single outdoor space.
We are talking about the return of Mahou Bravas Fest, which this year celebrates its second edition moving to the Railway Museum. After gathering more than 10,000 people in its first edition, the festival returns with a clear promise: to bring together in the same space the best bravas in Madrid.
A tour of the best bravas in the city
For one weekend, from September 26 to 28, the platforms of the old railway building will host a gastronomic competition. Restaurants such as Docamar, GOZAR Neotaberna Castiza, Jenkin’s, La Sucursal Chamberí, Taberna Acuerdo 2, Neotaberna Miguelín or La Campana, among others, will prepare their tastiest version of this traditional dish. Each proposal will be paired with a different Mahou beer.
The festival will also have a competitive component: attendees will be able to vote for their favorite brava, while a jury of experts from the gastronomic world -among which will be Lucía Mos, from Madrid Secreto- will choose the most outstanding ones. Two prizes will crown the best: the public’s and the jury’s awards.
As a special guest, the festival will have the presence of Bar Córdoba, from L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, which brings a Catalan flavor to the event and was already present at the Barcelona edition of Bravas Fest.
Beyond the tapas: workshops, raffles and experiences for everybody
But the Mahou Bravas Fest is not limited to the star dish. Between each tapa, visitors will be able to participate in activities such as “The Art of Beer Pulling by Mahou”, where they will learn how to serve like a professional, or complete the “Bravas Passport”, with which they can win prizes after trying all the proposals of the festival.
Children will also have their space with workshops such as “Plasti-Brava”, where they will create their own bravas dish with plasticine, or “Decorate your chef look”, where they will design their own apron.
How to get your ticket
Tickets to the event are free and can now be downloaded from the bravasfest.com website. As a novelty, this year has incorporated a FAST PASS, which allows access through a special queue and offers a bravas tapa and drink at a reduced price.
The festival also offers a special discounted ticket to visit the Railway Museum, a jewel of Madrid’s industrial heritage.
