An afternoon of fishing without leaving Madrid. It seems a paradox, but it is not: the Juan Carlos I park, to the northeast of the capital, has an area enabled to practice the sport of angling.
In addition to an artificial lake of approximately three hectares and an average depth of two meters, the park has an estuary with an area for fishermen. The main species that can be found here are the common carp, the royal carp, the carpine and the fish known as black bass (the American perch, coveted by many sport fishing enthusiasts).
Of course, you need a special permit (or license) to fish in the park. In addition, it is strictly forbidden to harm the aquatic species. Only catch-and-release fishing is allowed (it is mandatory to carry a landing net).
Park hours
Juan Carlos I Park is open daily from 7:00 am to 1:00 am in summer (from June to September) and from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm the rest of the months (except Fridays and Saturdays, when it closes one hour later: at 0:00 am).
More places to fish in Madrid
Madrid offers more alternatives for fishing without leaving the city: the lake of the Casa de Campo is also enabled for sport fishing in catch and release mode. Other enthusiasts choose to go to the Manzanares River, where it is possible to cast the rod under conditions and with the corresponding license.
