The Community of Madrid is the region with the fourth best public transport system in Europe, behind only Paris, Vienna and Berlin. It also has affordable costs for the user, which encourages the bus and metro to be used as perfect alternatives to the private car..
With school back in session, the Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid (EMT) has announced that public buses in the municipality will be free on September 2, 9 and 10from 0:00 to 23:59 hours. With this measure, the public company intends (as the last year) to increase the number of passengers in public transport after the summer and, of course, to continue to be a reference entity for municipalities in many European countries.

There will be exceptions for buses bound for the airport: they will be the only ones where you have to pay for each trip. The price will remain at 5 euros each way for the express bus (line 203) to Barajas. The standard bus (line 200) will continue to cost €1.50.
This is not the first time that the free public transport service has been activated in 2024. The Consistory announced that trips on EMT buses were going to be free of charge on January 8 and 9, just after the Christmas season. The same happened on April 2 and 3, coinciding with the end of Easter Week.
