Feathers, neon, fishnet stockings and lots of color. Casa de México’s Altar de Muertos 2025 returns once again this year to flood with joy and Mexican tradition its venue at number 20 Alberto Aguilera with a proposal inspired, on this occasion, by the golden age of Mexican cabarets.
Cabaret El Recuerdo, the name given to this proposal by architect and designer Guillermo González, captures the festive essence of the cabarets that arrived in Mexico in the early 20th century and quickly became the protagonists of nighttime entertainment in cafés and lounges.
Various folk art techniques can be observed in the altar: there are 12 life-size vedet catrinas in cardboard, 62 blown glass spheres, a candelabra of calacas (skulls) and little devils also made of cardboard and a tzompantli -a structure made of wood or reeds- with more than 60 acrylic skulls.
“This altar not only honors those who have departed, but also reminds us that life, like the best of cabarets, should be lived singing, dancing and loving until the end,” says its author.
This tribute is visible from the street, on the façade of the building itself, where more than a hundred purple, yellow and orange flowers have been installed to match the colors of the main altar.
