Who doesn’t get a bout of nostalgia every now and then? Everyone, and especially die-hard soccer fans: although we enjoy today’s soccer, the older we get, the more we long for the soccer (we don’t even call it that anymore) of bygone eras, with its broadcasts, those impossible hairstyles and mustaches of some players, and, of course, the uniforms.
Aware of this trend, LALIGA is organizing the first Retro Matchday from April 10 to 13, an initiative that will turn Matchday 31 of the competition into an experience that brings back the soccer of yesteryear. This will be reflected in the audiovisual experience of the televised matches (with the commentary style and graphics of decades past) as well as in the attire of many of the clubs, which will wear reinterpretations of their historic kits (some dating back to the 1970s, others to just a few years ago).

All the jerseys from Retro Matchday, at the Legends Museum

All these historic jerseys can be seen and admired up close until Tuesday, May 5, at the Legends Museum, a space dedicated to sharing the history of soccer.
In this temporary collection (which complements the museum’s regular historical collection), we’ll be able to see authentic classics reinterpreted. For example, Athletic Club de Bilbao is contributing a jersey that pays homage to its glory days in the 1970s, while Espanyol pays tribute to the club’s origins with a jersey that revives the team’s original colors, yellow and black.
On this occasion, four First Division teams will not participate in the initiative, including three from Madrid: Real Madrid, Getafe, and Rayo Vallecano (in addition to FC Barcelona). Atlético de Madrid, however, will participate, bringing back the alternate kit it wore during the 22/23 season to mark the club’s 120th anniversary and pay tribute to the blue-and-white colors with which it was founded.
