Rank number 11 out of 100. That is the place that the prestigious Taste Atlas ranking has considered that Madrid should occupy in the list of the 100 best gastronomic cities in the world. The capital has practically slipped into the top 10 with a score of 4.7 out of 5.
To carry out the ranking, the 17,073 cities that make up its database and more than 470,000 gastronomic ratings referring to the regional and national dishes most commonly served in each of these cities have been taken into account.
Madrid has not been the only Spanish city to get a place in the ranking, although it is the one that has come out best. To find representation of our country in the list again, you have to look for it in positions 54 (Barcelona), 62 (Valencia), 86 (San Sebastian), 93 (Seville) and 95 (Cordoba).
What to eat in one of the best gastronomic cities in the world?
The conclusions of the Taste Atlas ranking are not limited to a league table: 15,478 dishes from around the world have been evaluated and gastronomic recommendations have also been drawn from this assessment.
Among them, for example, they encourage you to try croquettes, Madrid-style tripe, oxtail, suckling pig and, of course, Madrid stew.
They also refer to the best restaurants and bars where to eat local. Among the names are Casa Mortero, Cervecería La Campana, Restaurante Quinqué, La MaMá Restaurante or Casa Dani.
On the other hand, Mahou San Miguel (beer), Al Alma del Olivo (oil), Vega de San Martín (cheese), J. García Carrión (wine) and Mercados Y Estilos de Vida (oil), among others, are recognized as the best gastronomic producers. All recommendations can be found at this link.
