The second half of August ends with heavy rains in the center of the peninsula. This has been explained Jorge Rey, creator of meteorological content, on his Youtube channel. And this has been confirmed by the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET), which has predicted precipitation throughout the community of Madrid and stormsboth in the Sierra and in the metropolitan area of the community between Thursday 29 and Friday 30.
Madrid, one of the communities most affected by the strong heat waves this summer, faces a week of rains that will bring with it a significant drop in temperaturesthat portends the arrival of autumn weather. Also Ciudad Real, Cordoba, Toledo, Guadalajara, Avila, Segovia, Burgos, Soria, Navarra, La Rioja and the Basque Country expect thunderstorms until Tuesday, September 3.

According to the AEMET, the rains could cause the accumulation of up to 15 liters of water per square meterin the center of the peninsula. The storms would be triggered, as Meteored has said, by a “tongue of cold air” located thanks to satellite images.
The good news from this unforeseen weather changeis that, in Madrid, temperatures will hardly rise above 32 degrees on the last weekend of August. In addition, the minimums will be between 18 and 21 degrees, which could improve the quality of sleep for those most vulnerable to heat. There will be downs of up to 12ºC in a matter of 24 hours.
However, Meteored clarifies that the storms will not put an end to the summer of 2024. Contrary to what will happen in central Spain, some areas of the country such as the Guadalquivir valley and the southern plateau could register more than 34 degrees from the 29th.
