On the first Saturday of every month, El Prado becomes a museum at night: it opens its doors from 8:30 pm to 11:30 pm, welcoming anyone who wants to admire some of the most important pictorial works in the world. On 7 September, once again, night owls have an appointment at the Landscape of Light.
The Prado by Night allows us, at unusual hours, to get to know the indelible mark of Velázquez, Bosch, Rubens, Goya, Caravaggio, El Greco and many other masters of painting. These geniuses marked the history of art forever. Some portraying the customs of their time, and others capturing legends or religious scenes that still today help us to understand the Europe of the past.
Admission to El Prado de Noche is free and open until full capacity is reached. It will be forbidden to enter after 23:00 hours, to ensure at least thirty minutes of tour to all visitors.
The initiative includes Samsung’s interactive experiences, such as El Tesoro del Delfín, an application that includes 360º images of the famous set of goldsmiths that houses the museum. There will also be cafeteria service for a drink after the visit.
Must-see works
As for works we can’t forget about, those in the temporary exhibition Art and Social Transformations in Spain (1885-1910) should be highlighted. The exhibition focuses on paintings that deal with problems of contemporary life, painted by artists such as Joaquín Sorolla, Ramón Casas and Vicente Cutanda. It will be at the museum until September 22, so this is the last chance to enjoy it at night.
Of course, it would be a sin to leave El Prado without contemplating Las Meninas by Velázquez; the room of black paintings by Goya; The Garden of Earthly Delights by Bosch; The Descent from the Cross by Rogier van der Weyden or The Three Graces by Rubens, to name just a few relics preserved in the building.
