La Mordida is much more than a chain of Mexican restaurants: its restaurants are full of South American iconography and musical references. The first one (at number 13 Belén Street) was built in 1995 on what was once El Café, founded by Julio Sánchez and the composer Joaquín Sabina during the last stage of the movida madrileña. Great Spanish film stars such as Javier Bardem, Álex de la Iglesia and Guillermo del Toro, as well as singers such as Chavela Vargas, have passed through here.
Flavor and music at La Mordida: buffet on Wednesdays and mariachis on weekends.
This month, to celebrate thirty years of history in the city, La Mordida offers a Mexican food buffet menu every Wednesday (not holidays) to its diners. It includes seven types of tacos (cochinita pibil; chicken with chipotle; tinga; chicken with squash blossom; chili con carne; vegan chili and with mixed fajitas), three kinds of quesadillas (huitlacoche, nopales and chorizo), gringas, nachos and beans.
There will be four passes of two dishes for each diner: that is, each diner can order up to 8 dishes (a more than reasonable limit). During the buffet it is mandatory to order a drink, which is not included in the offer (neither is dessert), so the total price is slightly more than 20€ per person. This is an exclusive buffet to be taken on the premises, so it is not possible to order at home. In addition, all diners at the table must choose the same menu.
In addition to Mexican dishes of excellent quality (and recognized by the Foundation of Authentic Flavors of Mexico), each La Mordida location has lively live performances. This month it brings mariachis to its Madrid restaurants to eat to the sound of guitars during the weekend.
