Photography, drawing, radio creations, objects, painting, performances and much more. Throughout her career, Esther Ferrer has explored different branches of art, becoming one of the best multidisciplinary artists of her generation.
From the early 60’s until now, the artist from San Sebastian has taken her work to the best national and international museums, with exhibitions in France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, Poland, Mexico and Japan, among others.
Now, the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (Calle de Jorge Juan, 106) is hosting a new exhibition dedicated to her under the title Ester Ferrer. Fold and process, which can be seen free of charge until April 12, 2026.
Awarded for her career

Esther Ferrer was the winner of the latest edition of the Tomás Francisco Prieto Medal Prize, an award given by the Spanish Mint to recognize the professional and human career of prestigious artists.
After receiving the 20,000 euros of the award and committing to design a medal for the institution, the artist has organized this exhibition in which she summarizes her professional development. The jury of the award highlighted the contribution of her free vision as one of the main figures of performance art in Spain.
Inspired by minimalism, conceptual art and creators such as John Cage or Marcel Duchamp, Esther Ferrer’s work questions the artistic object and focuses on the body, ephemeral materiality and the limits of language.
Repetition, over and over again

The exhibition Esther Ferrer. Fold and Process gathers the universe created by the artist, where repetition is always present. This is how the curator, Beatriz Martínez Hijazo, explains it on the official website: “The iterations and variations that are the backbone of her work can be seen most clearly in pieces such as Autorretrato en el tiempo, Poema de los números primos, Pi or El libro del sexo” (Self-Portrait in Time, Poem of Prime Numbers, Pi or The Book of Sex).
Those who visit the exhibition will find this tendency of the artist to seriality and reiteration. In addition, the folds, the geometric and the forms that go from the inside out, which have become a personal stamp of the artist, are very present.
The process, as important as the work

In the rooms of the Real Fábrica de Moneda y Timbre you can see some of Esther Ferrer’s main works, but also models, models, sketches, documents and even projects that never came to fruition.
In this way, the exhibition becomes a rehearsal of the multiple and brings the public closer to the artist’s creative search. For her, it is not only about showing her pieces, but also about demonstrating that “the process is as important as the work“.
