The concept of haute cuisine is often associated with formality, but Caña by Cañitas Maite takes a different approach. This restaurant, backed by a culinary group that boasts two Michelin stars and five Repsol Suns, offers an experience where virtually the entire menu is designed to be eaten with your hands, with prices averaging around 10 euros per dish.
Located at 67 Avenida de las Retamas in Alcorcón, the restaurant started out as a somewhat upscale burger joint, later expanding its menu to include more complex dishes presented in street food or casual styles.
A menu designed to do away with cutlery
Among the dishes on the menu is a steak tartare focaccia, served with capers and bone marrow mayonnaise. They also prepare Caesar salad hearts, which incorporate marinated partridge and Manchego cheese to transform the traditional salad into a bite-sized dish.
One of the restaurant’s biggest draws is its croquettes, which were named the best in the world in 2021. The recipe includes ham and pork jowl and is served on a bed of bacon popcorn. The finger-food menu continues with a potato waffle served with salsa brava and strips of fried chicken topped with carbonara sauce and plenty of grated cheese.
Beyond appetizers and dishes to share, the menu features intensely flavorful meats, notably a cut of beef tail that has undergone a 200-day aging process.
For now, Caña by Cañitas Maite operates exclusively at its Alcorcón location, although those involved in the project are already considering the possibility of moving this concept to a location closer to the city center in the near future.
