The shops that sellsculptured and hand-painted ceramicsare like small art galleries: we can find in them unique designs–with many hours of work behind them–that help bring life into the home. From cup sets for teatime (that sophisticated British custom that still has a following in Madrid) to vases ideal for adding personality to the living room.
In the capital, these stores do not go out of fashion: they are allies of any lover of decoration. Proof of this is that they go viral on social networks. Little England, a colorful shop near Alonso Martínez (Fernando el Santo, 25), is an example of a business that, since its foundation (in 1997), has been transforming into an attraction for those who care about home aesthetics. As soon as we enter, we see dishes hanging on a high wall and, all around, shelves full of objects that captivate at first sight.

Refined products from different nationalities
In its beginnings,Little England sold exclusively English antiques. Today it has bold and classic pieces, of all nationalities and for all tastes. Syou can buy here salad bowls, bowls, platters, jugs, mugs and ceramic plates with unrepeatable patterns. Of all the accessories for the kitchen, the collection of bowls painted by the artist Eva Hernández and the glasses made with Murano glass that come from the best Venetian factories stand out.
Also on display is a compilation of antique textiles with vintage suzanis brought from Uzbekistan, delicate kalamkaris and hand-embroidered linen tablecloths. “Textiles are bought one at a time and their price varies depending on where they come from and their size,” explains Pablo Canivell, who meticulously selects each jewel in his small store.
This place is an alternative to shopping at established giants like Maison du Monde or Sklum, and therefore an opportunity to take home really unique items that stray from the cold, repetitive designs of the multinationals.
