Two streets in the center of Madrid have become the scenes of a post-apocalyptic world. The producers of the third season of‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ have chosen Spain as the location to shoot the series that continues the internationally successful dystopia with dangerous walkers (or zombies) threatening the safety of the planet.
Madrid is the headquarters from which the filming of the entire season will be coordinated. That’s why the capital has been the first city to receive the great American production, which surprised fans of the series during the week of August 19 to 25, when Arlabán and Madrazo Street (both near Sol) were completely transformed to simulate places destroyed by ‘the walkers’. Dusty cars, fallen trees and more elements of the spin-off spooky scenography appeared in front of well-known restaurants in the area.
Galicia would be the next autonomous community where the next part of The Walking Dead will be filmed. Already castings are being held in Santiago de Compostela to look for extras. Filming in Galicia is expected to begin in September and end in October. After that, the production will go to Catalonia, Aragon and Valencia.
The arrival of this blockbuster to the peninsula represents an economic boost for the Spanish film industry. It generates new job opportunities for professionals in the audiovisual world and gives the country a significant international recognition (for its landscapes, transport network, low prices compared to other places in Europe and many other points in favor) that could attract the attention of famous film directors.
