For two weeks, San Isidro gives us back the Madrid of the neighborhood: the one of the chulapos, the pilgrimages and the street food stalls. The streets are filled with strollers with popular costumes of the region, and the verbena becomes a constant.
This year, Lavapiés will be -as it is already customary- one of the neighborhoods that will dress up to celebrate the day of Madrid’s patron saint. On May 15, at 12:30 p.m., the Plaza de la Corrala will rescue the género chico, so famous in the great theaters of yesteryear, to transfer it to an open-air concert.
The concert setlist includes popular songs that every Madrilenian has hummed at some time: Dónde vas con mantón de manila, Caballero del alto plumero and Madrileña bonita are some of the hits that will provide the soundtrack to the party. Soprano Carmen Gavilán, tenor Andrés Lara and baritone Abelardo Cárdenas will perform them.
