Star Wars does not go out of fashion. This is confirmed by the theme of the next parade to be organized in Madrid: Training Day, which will have 500 fans of George Lucas ‘ fictional universe as protagonists. They will wear their Imperial Army costumes in some of the most important streets of Madrid for a charitable cause: to raise funds for the Spanish Association Against Cancer.
This fourteenth edition of the parade will be held on Saturday October 19, coinciding with the charity exhibition that will host this week the Casa de la Panadería. The parade will start at 18:00 hours at the Centro Deportivo Municipal de la Cebada (plazuela Lina Morgan), will pass through emblematic places such as Calle Mayor or Puerta del Sol and will end at 20:00 hours in La Latina.
The forces of good
Training Day is one of the many charity events organized by the 501st Legion, a non-profit association with 14,440 volunteers in 69 countries. Spain currently has 750 Legion members, who donate money to organizations against children’s ailments as well as raising awareness of social problems such as bullying and poverty.
In addition to all this, Legion 501 is Lucasfilm’s favorite costuming group, and has the creator of the Star Wars franchise himself as an honorary member.
How to become a Galactic Empire recruit?
To join the parade with the best Star Wars costume, Legion 591 has set three requirements: be of legal age, consult its guide of accepted costumes (Costume Reference Library) by the association and register in the association’s forum.
An estimated 60,000 people are expected to attend the event, so the public is advised to arrive at Lina Morgan Square by subway. It should be noted that private vehicle and bus circulation will be modified during the parade. A total of thirteen EMT lines will be affected: 002, 3, 17, 18, 23, 23, 31, 35, 35, 50, 60, 65, 148 M1 and M3.
