After the success achieved this summer with its climatic shelter, the Círculo de Bellas Artes (CBA) will once again become a square open to the public this Christmas. And if a few months ago it became a place to take shelter from the heat, now it intends to be one against “the consumerist maelstrom of this time of year” with its surreal Christmas program.
The building’s Sala de Columnas (Calle de Alcalá, 42) will become the nerve center of the activities, which are aimed at all audiences and will take place from December 21 to 29. You will be able to read, have a drink, participate in a multitude of workshops, attend concerts… or, as a good square, just be. In addition, those who come with children will find a changing table, stroller parking and play facilitators.
Surrealist Christmas, on the other hand, is one of the proposals with which the CBA commemorates the centenary of the Surrealist Manifesto, in addition to the exhibitions dedicated to Max Ernst and Salvador Dalí.
What activities will the Surrealist Christmas have?
The full program has not been announced yet, but a preview of activities is known:
- Surrealist chess games.
- Collaborative creation of a Christmas landscape. Together we will give life to a unique Christmas scenery: like a nativity scene, but crazy.
- Storytelling. Las mayores también cuentan and La Cabeza cuentacuentos are initiatives of the Day Centers of the Madrid City Council and will go to the Círculo to tell unique stories.
- Trunk of absurd costumes. A disastrous tailor’s drawer full of accessories and impossible costumes.
- Concerts with Chico Trópico, Julián Mayorga, Oumoukala Sow, a Dada disco and many more. By the hand of Broccoli Verbena. Musical performances for children, teenagers, young and old.
- Dress to Impress. Analog and live version of this online game. Participate by creating and transforming your clothes in record time.
- Toy hospital. From the hand of Repair café, comes Choco Repair. Bring your old or damaged toys to give them a new life while you have a chocolate.
- K-Pop Experience. Masterclass of choreography and K-Pop culture by Andy del Pozo, captain of the current Spanish K-Pop team.
- Circonciencia: PH-Ízate. Two scientists study a mysterious compound found in red cabbage juice. Tired of theorizing, they decide to put it into practice, and after drinking a small sample of the compound, they become Aurora Ribosoma and Armando Neutrino… and from here on the limit between science, acrobatics and juggling is set by your applause.
- Gift Bank. A non-profit initiative with a collection point for toys to give to groups at risk of exclusion. They will also give a workshop to make wrapping paper to help the Three Wise Men in their important work.
- Workshops on surrealist nails and clothing customization.
- Toy recycling with Álvaro Soler-Arpa. A workshop to transform old toys with this artist, whose exhibition Messenger Species you can visit in the Goya Room of the building.
