August faces its final stretch and with it, in addition to the month, we are about to leave behind the Perseids: the most anticipated astrometric phenomenon of the summer, which will come to an end this Saturday. However, the activities for observing the night sky continue and in September the Madrid Planetarium, in collaboration with AIRBUS, will fill a Madrid park with telescopes to observe the Moon.
This public day of observation with telescopes will take place in the esplanade of Parque Tierno Galván, located near the main entrance of the Madrid Planetarium (Avenida del Planetario, 16). And the date chosen for this free initiative has been Friday, September 13 from 21h to 24h.
The activity has the support of the Agrupación Astronómica de Madrid (AAM), which on the occasion of the event provides the public with more than twenty telescopes “with several astronomy monitors and a screen measuring 5 x 3 meters,” says Planetario.
The evening will begin with a live projection of the Moon with explanations by Antonio del Solar, an amateur astronomer who regularly collaborates with Planetario and whose name may be familiar to you because his place in Chamberí went viral on TikTok last year.
As for the observation through telescopes, which brings together thousands of people every summer, it will also be accompanied by the descriptions and interpretations of amateur and professional astronomers.
How to sign up for telescope observation?
To attend this astronomical event no reservations can be made in advance: the telescopes will be located in a fenced area and to access it is necessary to queue.
On the other hand, from Planetario Madrid warn that the activity “will only take place if weather conditions permit”.
