A few days ago, it was declared a Cultural Heritage Site by the Community of Madrid, and now it is celebrating a route with more than 40 participating establishments. We are talking about cocido madrileño, a traditional dish with a centuries-old history and a large number of followers.
From February 15 to March 31, 46 restaurants in Madrid, Toledo, and Guadalajara will offer their best creations and compete to become the best cocido in the region.
Cocido for everyone

Thanks to the large number of participants, it is easy to find a nearby and affordable option. There are options at all price points, ranging from a set menu for €18, a buffet for €25 per person, or even special tastings for €45.
This year, the Ruta del Cocido Madrileño celebrates its 16th edition and hopes to improve on last year’s figures, when 170,000 diners took part and approximately90, 000 portions were served .
The forecast is to exceed 99,000servings and bring cocido to locals and visitors alike, promoting the dish. Other local products that will also be present include wine, olive oil, and, of course, chickpeas.
In fact, those who vote for their favorite dish will be entered into a raffle that includes a wine tourism experience, the winner’s weight in chickpeas, a selection of oils with Madrid designation of origin , and a stew for 10 people.
More awards

Currently, the award for best cocido in the region is held by La Gran Tasca, a traditional restaurant located in the Chamberí district. However, restaurants can also win other awards such as best chickpeas, best broth, best meat, most traditional cocido , or best service.
Voting is very simple: just go to the route’s website and select your favorite restaurant for each category, as well as adding personal details such as your name, phone number, and email address.
The website lists all the participating establishments, organized by area, and includes their opening hours, prices, and the type of cuisine they offer.
