The generational universality of Mafalda is comparable to very few elements (Pixar or chocolate could be some of them). Mafalda, that eternal nonconformist character created by Quino, has hundreds of layers of content and one of them is her environmental commitment.
The publishing house Lumen and Ecovidrio have collected fifteen panels with vignettes of Mafalda as well as a recreation of the character made with recycled glass. This exhibition is at the Eugenio Trías Municipal Public Library (Paseo de Fernán Núñez, 24) and can be visited free of charge until June 16.
The context of the exhibition is the 60th anniversary of the first publication of Mafalda and the 70th anniversary of Quino’s first publication. The exhibition brings together vignettes that deal with climate change and the slogan is “I wish this world was made of glass to be able to recycle it”.
Lumen says: “Join us in celebrating Mafalda and her pioneering role in the defense of the environment. Together, we can continue to spread his message and inspire positive change.”
And Ecovidrio adds “The environment is the space in which the life of different organisms develops and favors their interaction. It contains living beings as well as lifeless elements and others created by human hands”.
The exhibition is being held simultaneously with the Madrid Book Fair, which began on May 31 and will run through Sunday, June 16. Visiting hours are as follows: Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 9:00 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
