It’s not every day that you get the chance to hear the most popular songs by Louis Armstrong or B.B. King live in an authentic 1920s club atmosphere. With The Jazz Room, Madrid expands its jazz tradition with a series of unforgettable nights where jazz and improvisation mix with the pleasure of having a drink.
The Jazz Room Madrid: What concerts are on now?
A Journey to the Heart of New Orleans
Jazz was born in New Orleans and changed the history of music forever. It was made for improvisation, for breaking the rules and for each musician to add their own accent. A spirit of freedom that will come to life in these incredible concerts, with a repertoire ranging from Louis Armstrong to Fats Waller, and reviving classics such as When the Saints Go Marching In and Ain’t Misbehavin’.
Tribute to Etta James: a night of blues
Are you one of those who feels that without Etta James, the soul of soul and blues is only half complete? If your answer is “Obviously,” get ready for a night where her immense legacy comes to life. This is not just any tribute: it is a musical journey that feels like a live vinyl record, exploring the depth of songs such as At Last and the poignancy of I’d Rather Go Blind, with the energy of her unmistakable swing. We don’t need a reminder that Etta James is eternal, but we do need a night of blues that pays tribute to her, like this concert.
Tribute to Soul
With a mix of gospel and R&B, soul began to emerge in the late 1950s from African American communities. Upbeat songs with rhythm and feeling, whose melodic roots come from the church, but whose lyrics deal with everyday stories. And now some of those songs, such as Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On and Aretha Franklin’s Respect, are back with this tribute to one of the musical genres par excellence.
Tribute to Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong
This program celebrates the most classic jazz through the live music of two timeless artists: Sinatra, the emblem of that type of swing that sounds like elegance; and Armstrong, whose trumpet and voice changed phrasing forever. It is not a fixed set list, but a journey with such iconic pieces as Fly Me to the Moon, What a Wonderful World, and New York, New York. Let yourself be carried away by a professional band in which every note (improvised or not) has soul. And what soul.
What is The Jazz Room?
It’s a live music experience in Madrid where a band of four to six musicians perform jazz, soul, and blues classics. It takes place in a bar decorated like a 1920s New Orleans club, with dim lighting, tables near the stage, and drinks available during the performance. There are solos, there’s improvisation, and above all, there’s a great atmosphere!
