The Madrid Hippodrome will be transformed this weekend into Ireland’s national holiday: St. Patrick’s Day. For two days, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March, such an emblematic space as the Hippodrome, will be transformed into a meeting point where Celtic tradition, folk and rock songs and pints come together in an atmosphere inspired by the green hills of Ireland. And as a good St. Patrick’s, there is no lack of festive spirit, the color green and maybe even a rainbow illuminating the sky after the rain… because at the end of it, what awaits you is a legendary party. You can get your tickets here.
What’s in store for St. Patrick’s Fiesta?
The party captures the essence of the Irish holiday traditions. A green-tinged atmosphere with live music. All this, of course, accompanied by pints of beer.
The pints of beer could not be missing and, to soak it up, gastronomicoptionsfor all tastes.
The soundtrack of St. Patrick’s: live music, bagpipes and DJs.
Live folk music sets the pace for St. Patrick’s Fiesta. On stage will sound The Hermanos, with their rock versions, the traditional folk of Zarigüellas, Folk in Green and The Potato Monsters, the American rock of Red Cactus along with Zelada, Calambres + Ferre and Lerman .
And, as a final touch, the DJs will take over at nightfall, making sure the dance floor won’t stop dancing until the event closes at 11pm on Saturday and until 7pm on Sunday.
Where does this tradition come from?
The feast of St. Patrick’s, in honor of the patron saint of Ireland, has its roots in the saint who introduced Christianity to the island, becoming a national symbol. In Ireland, every March 17 it is celebrated with parades, dance and traditions that have crossed its borders.
In Spain, this celebration began to gain prominence in recent years and celebrating it at the Hippodrome has a special symbolism. The green areas of the space evoke the famous hills, making this place a stage to live the essence of the celebration.
How to get to the Hippodrome?
In addition to being able to access by private car -with the option of parking available at the venue-, the organization will provide a free shuttle bus from Paseo Moret (Moncloa). The service will run every 20 minutes on Sundays, from 10:15 a.m. until half an hour after the last horse race.
