The new Valdebebas shopping center is set to become the largest in Madrid and one of the largest in Spain. Named Valdebebas Shopping, this macro-complex will expand the commercial and leisure offer of the capital, both for its size and its strategic location in the district of Hortaleza, very close to Ifema, the Hospital Enfermera Isabel Zendal and the T4 of Barajas airport.
The project, promoted by General de Galerías Comerciales -the company of the tycoon Tomás Olivo, responsible for spaces such as Nevada Shopping or La Cañada-, will occupy a total area of 400,000 square meters, of which 120,000 will be allocated to gross leasable area for stores and restaurants. In total, Valdebebas Shopping will have 280 stores of national and international brands, thus surpassing the number of stores in Xanadú (220) and practically doubling the surface area of Plenilunio (220,000 m²).
The design of Valdebebas Shopping will be similar to that of Oasiz Madrid, with open spaces, fountains and promenade areas. Oasiz, which currently holds the position of largest shopping center in the Community and was presented with similar enthusiasm, is carrying millions of dollars in debts and is in preconcurso of creditors, after four years in operation.
Valdebebas Shopping’s opening forecast
The history of Valdebebas Shopping began in 2020, when General de Galerías Comerciales acquired two large plots of land known as Proyecto Ágora for 55 million euros, totaling 145,794 square meters of buildable area. Although an opening date of 2026 was initially considered, the latest business movements and the size of the project suggest that the inauguration could be delayed for a few more years.
