If the rain gives a break next weekend, the Mercado de las Ranas will fill the streets of the neighborhood of Las Letras again on Saturday, November 22.
Located in the emblematic Calle Huertas, this open-air flea market is held on the first and third Saturday of each month and is a true mosaic of creativity and neighborhood life. Its spirit is reminiscent of the great European markets, but with the unmistakable flavor of Madrid: stores, workshops, galleries and bookstores bring their best pieces to the street to offer art, crafts, jewelry, natural cosmetics, fashion, ceramics and gourmet products, in a pedestrian environment full of history and charm.
The hours, from 12:00 to 19:30, allow you to stroll leisurely, discover original stalls and take a look at signature pieces, handmade items, unique accessories and a wide sample of local design. More than 260 establishments participate in the initiative, which was born to revitalize local commerce and has established itself as an urban festival in which neighbors, tourists, curious and collectors mix. Each edition is different, in some there are demonstrations, live music, exhibitions, activities for children, participatory workshops and special menus in bars and restaurants partners, which makes the visit a complete plan.
A market with a traditional tradition

The Mercado de las Ranas owes its name to the old Cantarranas Street (now Lope de Vega), a nod to the neighborhood’s past of ponds and amphibians, historically linked to immortal writers such as Cervantes, Lope or Quevedo, whose works are now read on the cobblestones and facades. The route changes in each edition, but always covers Huertas from Plaza de Santa Ana, León and Lope de Vega to Costanilla de las Trinitarias.
The nearest metro station is Antón Martín (L1), but you can also get there on foot from Sol, Tirso de Molina or Atocha, as well as numerous bus routes. Admission is free.
