Madrid is preparing for several days of abrupt weather change after a long period marked by intense heat and atmospheric stability. According to the latest forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), a sudden drop in temperatures is expected, with highs going from over 30 degrees to between 22 °C and 24 °C, while lows may drop to 11-12 °C in the coming days.
The main reason for this meteorological turn is the arrival of a trough of cold air of Atlantic and polar origin, which will cause a cooler atmosphere, typical of early autumn. In addition, the models point to greater instability, cloudy skies and the possibility of weak rains, especially in the Sierra and eastern areas of the region, although the probability of significant precipitation remains low in the capital.
The weather in Madrid for the rest of September
These conditions will make it advisable to make the change of closet and to use, even for a few days, between-season clothes: light jacket for the day and, above all, the umbrella at hand for possible showers. The thermal contrast will be especially marked after a start of September marked by tropical nights and days with above-average temperatures.
However, this episode of colder and rainy weather will be temporary. Medium-term forecasts indicate that, after these unstable days, mild temperatures will return, with more moderate minimums and maximums that will again approach 27 °C or 28 °C, recovering the typical dynamics of the end of the summer in Madrid. AEMET reminds that September is a month especially prone to abrupt changes, and recommends consulting daily updates and being alert to warnings if outdoor activities are planned.
