The link between Alcalá de Henares and culture can be understood from many points of view: literature -because of Miguel de Cervantes-, theater -because of its Corral de Comedias- and, undoubtedly, also the seventh art: a relationship that is more evident than ever with the celebration of ALCINE, the Alcalá de Henares/Comunidad de Madrid Film Festival.
The festival, which this year will be held until Sunday, November 16 under the slogan Ante la oscuridad, cine brillante, duro, delirante, afilado…, has a careful and wide selection of screenings of short and feature films that can be seen for free, for 1 € (in the case of those who have a Friends of the Teatro Salón Cervantes card) or for 3 €.
In addition to the above, the public can attend colloquiums, concerts and even exhibitions specially designed for the occasion, such as the one that can be visited in the Oidor Chapel (Plaza Rodríguez Marín, s/n) until the end of the month in tribute to Álex de la Iglesia and entitled Álex de la Iglesia: 35 years laughing in the face of darkness.

ALCINE and Alcalá de Henares
The ALCINE festival has been part of the cultural and cinematographic fabric of the city of Alcalá de Henares for decades: it is considered that its origin dates back to the seventies of the last century, consolidating in the following decade and reaching a very important notoriety in the nineties, when the short film lived a golden age in our country.
As proof, some of the names of the directors who presented their work at the festival: J. A. Bayona, Álex de la Iglesia, Icíar Bollaín, Paco Plaza or Jaume Balagueró, among many others.
At present, according to the organization itself, “at the local level, the greatest hallmark of the current stage of ALCINE has perhaps been its commitment to life on the web”, adapting to new times and spectators to continue to maintain this film festival as one of the essential events in the region .
