The total eclipse on August 12, the partial eclipse on the 28th, and those expected in 2027 and 2028… don’t throw away your certified eclipse glasses just yet, because Madrid is in for some cosmic luck over the next few years—and now, over the next few months as well. Especially for lovers of both space and live music, because Bach in Space is coming to Madrid with an immersive piano concert where the compositions of one of the greatest figures of the Baroque era are heard in the light (and darkness) of the universe.

What is Bach in Space?
A live piano concert that goes a little beyond the typical Bach recital—specifically, millions of light-years beyond. Bach in Space is a classical concert where a professional pianist performs some of the German composer’s most renowned works. The Goldberg Variations, the Italian Concerto, The Well-Tempered Clavier… scores that are part of music history and now provide the soundtrack to high-quality images from NASA and the European Space Agency, which are projected onto a giant screen during the performance.
Bach and the cosmos: a natural harmony
It’s no coincidence that this concert’s repertoire consists entirely of works by Bach. In fact, he was the composer with the most works included on the Golden Record that Carl Sagan and NASA sent into space aboard the Voyager probes in 1977 (a sort of “message in a bottle” containing images, sounds, messages, and songs that encapsulated the essence of Earth). Three compositions by Bach in total that bound him to the cosmos for life.
And now it finds its rightful place once again in this concert, where its spiritual and structured sound is interpreted on the piano, note by note and star by star. Works that, in *Bach in Space*, are translated into nebulae such as the Crab Nebula or the Hourglass Nebula, and galaxies such as the Sombrero Galaxy or the Antennae Galaxies.

Have you ever felt like classical music lifted you up a little? Bach in Space is coming to Madrid to make that feeling (almost, almost) a reality. An immersive piano concert that we’ll be able to enjoy—just like all eclipses— for one day only. It will take place at the Teatro Capitol Gran Vía, and since seating is limited, we recommend booking tickets in advance to avoid the (highly undesirable) surprise of finding yourself without a seat.
