To the last chord of Café Central they have written a cauldron. After the news of its closure in October of this year was announced last July, the temple of jazz itself has announced that the music will continue to sound within its mythical four walls for at least a few more months.
In a publication entitled “Essential Communication: A Respite for Café Central”, the venue, which has been in operation since 1982, announced just a few days ago that its legal team “has worked a small temporary miracle”.
That miracle translates into something as precious as the fact that Café Central will continue to operate in its iconic premises at least until the beginning of 2026. An extended stay in what has always been their home, and which has also become the home of all the people who have come to number 10 of the Plaza del Angel.
In the lines of their press release they wanted to remember precisely all that community that has been built around the venue and its music over time: “We are deeply moved and grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have received. Extending our stay until the beginning of the year is a collective triumph“.
The “resistance” concerts at Café Central

To celebrate the good news, they clarify that during these months of extension they will continue to host “unforgettable jazz nights in that unique atmosphere full of magic that is the Central”.
Thus, every night of the week musicians and friends of the house as Guillermo McGill, Pepe Rivero, Sheila Blanco, Federico Lechner, Fernando Egózcue, Betta Berodia, Joan Chamorro, Raúl Márquez, Èlia Bastida or Lluís Coloma will flood the place with their music.
They will also be joined by the rhythm of The Good Men Swingtet and proposals such as the band Chicago Electric Soul Company. Information on all these farewell concerts and reservations can be made through its website.
The future of Café Central
Parallel to the celebration of the good news, behind the scenes the team of this historic jazz club has a clear priority: “to ensure the future of Café Central in a new location that is up to the level of the evenings we have shared”. A location that for the moment, like the next note that will sound in an improvisation, remains a mystery.
