We have a new earthling in Madrid. Her name is Cometa and she has registered in the city. She, who is gradually getting to know Madrid’s customs, now needs to explain to her parents, who live in Saturnillo de Arriba, what Christmas is all about and why it is so important. So let’s help the “most peculiar heroine of all the Galaxies”. We are talking about COMETA SOY YO, the family Christmas show that mixes theater, circus, music and a lot of humor.
The cold Christmas mornings
10.00 h. Christmas breakfast. As everyone knows, Christmas mornings in Madrid begin with a good chocolate with churros. And for classic and mythical, the Chocolatería 1902, which has been making the people of Madrid happy for five generations. You can choose between pure chocolate, with cream or rum (the latter option, keep out of reach of children).
12.00 h. The Christmas walk. If there’s one thing Cometa has to know, it’s how to get around Madrid in the midst of Christmas chaos. A tingling of people leave their homes to enjoy the tinsel-festooned shop windows and the trees that decorate the squares. We start in Plaza de España, with the big 19-meter fir tree. Here will also be located, soon, La Navideña, a natural ice rink of 450 square meters and a market full of craft stalls and gastronomic snacks with a full cultural program.
We continue through the Royal Palace, enjoying the Sabatini Gardens, where the little ones can play hide-and-seek and get lost in the labyrinthine hedges. And after the most royal walk, we continue along Arenal street (maybe a stop at Turrones Vicens to stock up for the Christmas table?) and cross to Plaza Mayor, where the Christmas Market will be set up from November 25 with its endless stalls of figurines for the Nativity Scene, costumes, wigs…
13.00 h. Time to recharge your batteries. One of the restaurants in Madrid where you can enjoy delicious cuisine and a cultural space for the kids is Magasand (Columela, 4). Perfect for choosing several dishes from the menu and sharing. It also has a bookshop, with a children’s section perfect for them to imagine other worlds while the adults enjoy the after-dinner conversation.
15.00 h. Games at La Manuela. A classic in the Malasaña neighborhood, an old botillería that has been serving its coffees, chocolates, teas and pastries for decades (since 1979) to the snacks of the locals. Around you, dozens of board games to play before the big moment of the day.
It’s time for Cometa
19.30 h. It’s the turn of COMETA SOY ME. On weekends, you can choose between 4.30 pm or 7.00 pm. After this tour of Madrid, we make sure that Cometa will be able to explain to his family from Saturnillo de Arriba what Christmas is all about. Now, it’s our turn to know the story of the galactic adventurer.
A show located in front of the Ice Palace in a special tent for our friend from space in which theater, acrobatics of the best circus show and music and dance intermingle. A unique evening in which children will gawk throughout the show… and the occasional adult.
The end of the party
21.30 h. And as we leave in the middle of the night… Madrid lights up. The Christmas illumination invades the streets of the center again, filling the evenings in the city with twinkling shadows. It is impossible, no matter how Grinch you feel, not to look up and realize that there is something special in the atmosphere.
22.30 h. A good day deserves to end with a good treat… and if it is a very Madrid and very American at the same time? The hamburgers at Alfredo’s Barbacoa (Calle Lagasca, 5) have been spreading happiness since 1981. It’s time to order the most “gocha” one, get your strength back and close a very Christmasy and galactic Madrid day.
