Whoever wants to start up a business in Madrid in 2026 will be able to do so with a regional subsidy through the aid for the self-employed that has been approved by the Governing Council of the Community of Madrid with a total investment of 3 million euros.
Last year, 844 new self-employed workers benefited from this initiative, promoted by the Regional Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment, for which they received an average amount of 2,900 euros.
In addition to this aid to the self-employed, there are others promoted by the regional government, such as the Zero Rate, which “fully covers the Social Security contributions of the new self-employed for the first year”.
Who can apply for the aid?
The people to whom this aid is addressed are the unemployed who register as self-employed persons in the following modalities:
- Self-employed in the corresponding regime of the Social Security or in the mutual society of the corresponding professional association.
- Members of civil societies or communities of goods.
- Members of commercial companies.
- Worker or worker members of cooperatives or labor companies.
In addition, they must undertake to remain in this situation for at least two years.
Who is excluded?
Self-employed persons who fit the following profiles will not be able to apply for the aid:
- Self-employed persons as collaborating family members of the farm owner.
- Relatives of partners or members of the administrative bodies of commercial companies with a shareholding of less than 25% of the capital stock.
What expenses can be covered with this aid?

These aids to future self-employed are intended to subsidize part of the expenses they have to face when starting up their projects. These expenses include, for example, those related to technical engineers or lawyers, professional association fees, investment in research and development, advertising or insurance payments.
Eligible expenses also include those associated with the premises where the activity is to be carried out (water, gas, electricity or Internet), the design of a web page or the acquisition of software and computer licenses, notary or registry fees, agency fees or patent and trademark registrations.
How to apply for these grants for the self-employed?
The procedure can be carried out through the electronic office of the Community of Madrid within three months from the beginning of the business activity -which is considered the date of registration in the Economic Activities Tax or in the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers-.
The call, on the other hand, has an indefinite character: that is to say, it may be requested at any time of the year. The aid is direct and will be granted provided that the requirements are met and that the budget credit has not been exhausted.
