A total of more than 1,500 unique pieces made by master artisans from different states of the Mexican Republic: that’s what visitors to the Fundación Casa de México en España (Calle Alberto Aguilera, 20) will find until Sunday, June 1. The reason is none other than the celebration of the fourth edition of Tienda Hecho a mano México, the popular handicrafts market set up inside this museum.
The aim of this initiative, curated by art promoter Sara Galindo, is “to contribute to the preservation of popular art knowledge through fair trade“. The space will bring together samples of different techniques such as clay and tin, wax, glass and lacquer, among others.
Thus, those who come to this craft market in the Chamberí museum will find both decorative and textile pieces and jewelry, footwear and “items of great cultural relevance and aesthetic value,” say the hosts of the event.
Craft market schedule
- Monday: from 10h to 19h.
- Tuesday to Saturday: 10h to 21h.
- Sunday: 10h to 14h.
Exhibitions at Casa de México
If you visit the Casa de Mexico Foundation you can take advantage of your visit to take a look at the temporary exhibition We were happy and we didn’t know it, which will remain open until next Sunday, June 8.
It brings together more than 60 works by 28 Mexican artists, including video works, installations, photographs and sculptures.
Other markets in museums and schools
Casa de México is not the only museum in Madrid that hosts markets or flea markets on a regular basis. One of the most famous is the Mercado de Motores, which takes place at the Museo del Ferrocarril (Paseo de las Delicias, 61). You can check when the next editions will be held and which vendors will be attending on their website.
Although it is less known, in the building next to the Museo Geominero, the Escuela de Minas de Madrid (Calle de Ríos Rosas, 21) organizes an original mineral market on the first Sunday of each month (except in August).
