Swimming pools and bathing areas for dogs in Madrid are on the rise, as are the temperatures. In the capital, approximately 16% of households have a dog, according to data from the city council. This implies that, with the increase of pets in the city, more spaces are needed for their recreation.
Although there are canine areas in the center of the capital, there are few areas where they can cool off. Here are some alternatives within the Community of Madrid:
1. Vive Pet Resort
Vive Pet Resort has created the Beach Dog Club. A saltwater pool with a depth of more than one meter with steps and ramp adapted for dogs to enter and exit.
In this canine pool both owners and dogs can spend the day playing and bathing. There is also a fresh water shower and a hair dryer for dogs. To top it off, there is a Doggy Bar where you can relax on comfortable sofas on the terrace, always accompanied by dogs and even humans.
Entrance for dog 10 € and entrance for person 15 €.
Carretera de El Escorial, 19 (Las Rozas)
2. Peludos al agua
Peludos al agua teaches dogs not to be afraid of swimming. The day starts from 12 to 14:30 in the pools that cover the least amount of water, where dogs are taught the technique of hydrotherapy reinforcements, from 5 to 10 minutes each (depending on the need of the canine).
There are three pools exclusively for dogs: owners are excluded from bathing, except to help their pets. The two shallower pools are used to introduce the dog to bathing or to treat injuries or aversion to water. The third pool is for the bravest, those who dive in headfirst, on a plank or dive. It has a depth of 1.65 m to 2.10 m.
All three pools have a special access ramp for pets. And, in addition, the entire plot is available for them to experiment, run and be free to play.
Entrance for dog 6 € and entrance for person 12 €.

Bathing areas allowed by the Community of Madrid:
There are five areas suitable for bathing within the Community of Madrid, but only in two are pets allowed, provided they are leashed:
Estremera beach
In the municipality of Estremera, 60 km from Madrid, is the beach of Estremera or fluvial beach of Los Villares, which belongs to the Tagus River. It is one of the few bathing areas where dogs are allowed as long as they are leashed. It also has various services such as picnic areas and a playground. It is also prepared to host various activities and there are companies that offer options such as zip line, archery, waterball, paintball, horseback riding, etc.. In addition, you can go hiking and then finish with a refreshing swim.
Estremera
Alberche River
This sandy area formed by the confluence of the rivers Alberche and Perales is one of the most accessible fluvial “beaches” in the Community of Madrid. It is located in the town of Aldea del Fresno, about 50 km from the capital, and the municipal ordinance allows the bathing of pets under two conditions: that they are leashed and that the good behavior and control of the animal is guaranteed.
The shallow water makes it an ideal place to go with children and the landscape, surrounded by forest, is spectacular. It is another of the areas considered by the Community of Madrid as suitable for bathing.
Aldea del Fresno
Dogs are at an average temperature of 39º Celsius, to which must be added a layer of hair all over the body, so for most dogs the summer in the capital, as for their owners, is exhausting. The options for cooling off are gaining popularity, almost by force, and finding swimming pools for dogs is no longer uncommon.
