For three days only, the streets of San Lorenzo de El Escorial return to the Middle Ages. This weekend, the municipality hosts a medieval market full of shows, crafts, gastronomy and traditional crafts.
There will be more than 80 stalls spread around the Town Hall Square and the historic center of the town, where you can buy wooden objects , leather, ceramics, jewelry, traditional sweets, honey, cheese or sausages, among many others.
In addition, the plan will be completed with parades, children’s activities and a wide gastronomic offer in which the grilled meat grills stand out. There will also be wicker and esparto grass workshops that will take the little ones back in time.
Everything ready for the flea market

This year’s edition was scheduled for October, but had to be rescheduled due to weather forecasts. Now, as many cities begin to prepare for the arrival of Christmas, El Escorial proposes a different plan full of shows set in the Middle Ages.
The market will open its doors on Friday, November 7 from 17:30 to 21:45 hours, while the rest of the weekend can be visited from the morning. Saturday‘s schedule will be from 11:00 to 22:30 hours and Sunday from 11:00 to 20:45 hours, as published by the City Council in its social networks.
Fire, fantasy and spectacle

The jesters, musicians and goblins will be the great protagonists of the medieval market of El Escorial, as they will be present every day in the different parades and animations. The streets will be filled with music, dance and fun for all audiences and there will be performances of “infinite theater” with fantastic beings such as trolls, witches or forest creatures.
At night, both Friday and Saturday, there will be fire and dance performances by Nazareth, a specialized dancer and artist with experience in more medieval markets.
Workshops, crafts and gastronomy

Beyond the parades and juggling, at the stalls of El Escorial’ s medieval market you will be able to see how objects were made in the Middle Ages. Some artisans will offer live demonstrations and there will also be wicker and esparto grass craft workshops.
Children will have their own space for storytelling and board games in the purest medieval style. There will also be children’s attractions and theatrical performances.
As for gastronomy, you can taste different meats, rustic breads, cheeses, pies and traditional sweets such as sugared almonds or honey doughnuts. Thus, the medieval market becomes a good option for lunch or dinner, completing the experience with traditional drinks such as mead.
