The festivities for Columbus Day will fill the capital with music for four days. While in the Pilar neighborhood there will be performances by national bands such as Nacha Pop or Celtas Cortos, Madrid Río will welcome promising musicians from Latin America, such as Zuarez or Elsa and Elmar.
The seven concerts of Madrid Río will be organized from October 10 to 13 in the Matadero square, a cultural space that serves as a meeting point for artists of different nationalities and disciplines.
Outstanding musicians
Among the most interesting Latin American artists on the program is Elsa Margarita Carvajal (Elsa y Elmar), who will arrive at the square on Saturday, October 12 at 1:00 pm. The singer-songwriter from Bucaramanga (Colombia) has made a name for herself in Spain with her emotive spiritual pop songs. Her most listened to song, Ojos Noche, already has more than 136 million plays on Spotify.
On Saturday night, two other artists whose music is intimately linked to flamenco will take the stage at the Matadero: singer Diego Guerrero (8:00 pm) and cantaora Rocío Márquez (9:30 pm).
Of course, urban music could not be missing from the program. Israel B, who already boasts a gold record and collaborations with figures such as C. Tangana, will kick off the concert series on Thursday, October 10 at 9:30 pm. The following day will see the arrival of another reference of the urban scene: Nanpa Básico, known for being the author of the hits Canela and Quiéreme así.
Tickets for all concerts are free, but must be booked in advance online through the Matadero website (for capacity reasons). Tickets for the performances on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 are available from October 7.
On Saturday 12, in addition to live music in Madrid Rio and other enclaves of the city, there will be a fireworks show in the Plaza de Cibeles from 21:10 hours. The musician and composer Luis Miguel Cobo will perform a selection of popular songs that will be synchronized with the fireworks show.
