In Madrid, experiences, plans, exhibitions are always flourishing. One of them proposes a new look at one of the great pioneering artists of contemporary art: Frida Kahlo: Live Art Experience and Gastronomic Show. You’ll find it at Calle del Pintor Rosales, 30 and you can get your tickets here.
“They thought I was a surrealist, but I was not. I never painted my dreams, I only painted my own reality”. This is one of those great phrases that Frida Kahlo left for posterity. In it, she not only speaks of her artistic style: she speaks of the need she had to capture what surrounded her and make it eternal through art.
This is exactly what Kahlo‘s exhibition in Madrid aims to do: to capture these feelings, the personal history, the colors (even flavors) that inspired the Mexican artist so much. And it does so by exploring and making all the senses flourish in collaboration with UN Women.
What will we find in this sensorial exhibition of Frida Kahlo?
The exhibition seeks to bring out all the senses and, to this end, has a series of “hosts”, artists from different disciplines that complete the tour, which reconnect you face to face, with live performances. Music is paramount, and is composed expressly for Frida Kahlo: Live Art Experience and Gastronomic Showcase.
The first room is what we can consider the most traditional: it is an exhibition of unpublished photographs of the artist that provide an insight into her daily life, her creative process and her home and artistic life.
The second one is a collection of letters attributed to Frida Kahlo. These letters have been selected by Pilar Sedano, curator of the Museo del Prado, and allow us to delve into her most intimate side, her thoughts, emotions and relationships. These letters will be theatrically intervened by the host.
The third room, Live Art Room, is pure digital and technological art, where you can explore his work in an interactive and immersive way. The hours of the live art experience are from Friday to Sunday from: 11am to 1pm (last session) and 5pm to 7pm (last session).
The gastronomic experience
For those who wish, you can complete the experience (by purchasing a joint ticket) with a gastronomic menu inspired by the wedding banquet of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
A five-course tasting menu that covers iconic Mexican dishes (esquites, pozole, sope de manitas de cerdo y pollo, duck with mole… with a vegetarian option available) and is accompanied by a tequila and mezcal tasting and live music.
Dining experience schedule:
- Wednesday and Thursday at 21:00
- Fridays at 20:00
- Saturdays and Sundays at 14:00 and 20:00h
