There are buildings in Madrid that have lived a thousand lives. And in the case of the Wellington Hotel, a thousand and one. Opened in 1952, it is part of the capital’s architectural heritage, and names such as Mel Gibson and Ernest Hemingway have checked in at its reception.
Its gastronomic offerings make it synonymous with luxury for the most demanding palates, and now also for the most loyal fans of Middle Earth thanks to the exclusive Lord of the Rings concert that will take place from January to April this year.
Hotel Wellington in Madrid: vineyards and fruit trees 30 meters above sea level
The Wellington Hotel is like an old man who has been in the military: it has stories everywhere. Did you know that it hosted the guests of the royal wedding of the King and Queen of Spain in 2005? And that it stands on the Torreón where Gómez de la Serna spent his last days in Spain before going into exile in Argentina in 1936? But there is one feature that comes with a record: its urban garden is the largest in the world.
Located 30 meters above ground, its rooftop houses 14 plots of organic crops free of insecticides and pesticides. More than 35 varieties, including tomatoes, potatoes, and aromatic herbs, add to the long list of reasons why the Wellington Hotel is an icon of the city. And now, even more so.
When and at what time will the “Lord of the Rings” concert take place?
Over the coming months and on selected dates until April, the hotel will also host a series of exclusive concerts in tribute toThe Lord of the Rings. On each date, there are three different sessions to choose from: at 5:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., or 9:00 p. m. At each session, a string quartet will perform live renditions of legendary songs from the soundtrack, such as Concerning Hobbits, Into the West, and Gollum’s Song.
This spectacular event is brought to you by Candlelight in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences, which means that each evening will be lit by thousands of candles. Luxury, music, and the best way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the “Fellowship of the Ring” as it deserves.
