In 1919, architect Secundino Zuazo built a structure right on Gran Vía designed to hold money: the headquarters of Banco Matritense. More than a century later, that same space houses something very different. There, Aperol, vermouth, burrata, and cannoli are served while live Italian music plays. To us, it feels like a Sorrentino film. Book your Italian after-work gathering here.
The building is now the H10 Villa de la Reina, a four-star boutique hotel that preserves much of its past. The monumental columns in the lobby and the original wooden elevator remain in place, and since 2015, they’ve coexisted with French-inspired interior design that blends the classic with the contemporary. It’s in that lobby where the setting for the new Thursday outing is located.

An aperitif making a comeback in a new format

This Italian aperitif has long been a hallmark of the H10 Villa de la Reina. It used to be a buffet-style event, but now it’s back in a new format: guests are served a menu right at their tables, featuring freshly prepared dishes—and, as another new feature, live music.
This iconic after-work event kicks off on November 12, coinciding with Madrid Hotel Week, and will take place every Thursday starting at 7:30 p.m. at the La Villa Lobby Bar, except on December 24 and 31 and January 7.
What’s on the menu?
The menu follows the Italian aperitivo ritual, with several dishes to share placed in the center of the table:
- To start: a platter of Italian cold cuts and cheeses with focaccia, a burrata salad, and candied cherry tomatoes.
- Top picks: Roman-style Margherita pizza or cannoli with Iberian pancetta and Parmesan sauce.
- Dessert: as you’d expect, tiramisu.
- Drinks to choose from: Aperol or Vermut de la Reina (non-alcoholic options are also available) and coffee or tea to finish.
A hotel bar open to the city

The Lobby Bar La Villa is open to both guests and the local public. Beyond aperitifs, it offers dinner every day and lunch on weekdays, as well as afternoon tea and an extensive cocktail menu. The menu features dishes such as the “Queen’s” Russian salad, made with a light piparra pepper mayonnaise, or the restaurant’s own take on bread with olive oil and chocolate. The space also boasts a small library—a rare oasis of tranquility amid the hustle and bustle of Gran Vía.
