Tomelloso will once again welcome travelers from Madrid by rail thanks to a new tourism initiative by Renfe and the city council of this town in Castilla-La Mancha. The experience, called “Posada de Vid y Cultura,” will debut on November 14 and will allow visitors to discover, in a single day, the wine-growing, cultural, industrial, and gastronomic heritage of one of Castilla-La Mancha’s premier wine destinations.
The new initiative also carries significant symbolic weight: the train will arrive at the historic Cinco Casas station, from where a bus service will transport passengers to Tomelloso. The town lost its direct rail connection decades ago, and this tourist route restores—at least on an occasional basis—the link with the train to bring residents of Madrid and visitors closer to its wineries, distilleries, caves, and museums.
A round-trip journey from Madrid
The “Posada de Vid y Cultura” tourist train will depart on Saturday, November 14, from Madrid Chamartín-Clara Campoamor Station at 9:24 a.m. It will also stop at Atocha Cercanías at 9:40 a.m., before arriving at Cinco Casas Station at 11:24 a.m.
Once there, the tour will continue by road to Tomelloso. Participants will travel by bus to visit the sites included in the program and explore the town’s main points of interest. The return trip is scheduled to depart at 7:47 p.m. from Cinco Casas, arriving at Atocha Cercanías at 9:38 p.m. and at Chamartín-Clara Campoamor at 9:55 p.m.
Wineries, distilleries, and caves

Tomelloso is one of the leading names in Castilla-La Mancha’s wine-growing landscape. Its connection to wine has shaped the economy, architecture, and identity of the town, where traditional cave cellars form part of a unique underground heritage. These structures were excavated beneath the houses to store wine at a stable temperature and are now one of the town’s most distinctive features.
The route will provide insight into how winemaking and the production of wine-based spirits drove the industrial development of Tomelloso for decades—a town that once boasted numerous smokestacks linked to its distilleries.
Among the planned stops, the Virgen de las Viñas Winery and Olive Oil Mill stands out as one of the region’s leading cooperatives. The visit will conclude with a tasting of wines and products from Castilla-La Mancha, designed to introduce attendees to the flavors and ingredients that define the local cuisine.
Art, tradition, and the cuisine of Castilla-La Mancha
The planned itinerary also includes the Casa de las Artes y las Letras de La Mancha, known as CALMA; the Antonio López Torres Museum; and the Museo del Carro y Aperos de Labranza, dedicated to rural life and traditional farming tools.
The Antonio López Torres Museum offers a closer look at the work of the Tomelloso-born painter, renowned for his landscapes and scenes depicting La Mancha. Meanwhile, the Museum of Farm Carts and Implements helps visitors understand what agricultural and livestock activities were like in the area, featuring vehicles, tools, and artifacts related to rural trades.
The day’s itinerary will also include a guided walk through the historic center of Tomelloso and a stop at the Mercado de Abastos, where a food tasting will be held. This combination of heritage, cultural visits, and local products makes the experience more than just a simple train excursion: it’s a one-day immersion in the culture of Castilla-La Mancha.
How much does it cost, and where can you buy tickets?
The price for the complete experience is 60 euros for adults and 30 euros for children under 14. The price includes round-trip tickets from Madrid, bus transfers from Cinco Casas to Tomelloso, guided tours, and activities scheduled throughout the day. Children under four may travel for free as long as they do not occupy a seat.
Tickets can be purchased through Renfe’s official channels: the website, the mobile app, station ticket offices and ticket machines, travel agencies, and by calling 912 320 320. Since this is a trip with limited seating and a set schedule, it is recommended to book in advance.
