One of the most refreshing news these days for the residents of Fuencarral-El Pardo: the summer swimming pools of the Vicente del Bosque Municipal Sports Center have reopened. The two pools have been closed for three years due to a comprehensive reform that has involved an investment of 4.8 million euros by the Madrid City Council.
This intervention has made it possible to completely refurbish the lining of the two 50-meter Olympic swimming pools, install a new purification room and build perimeter galleries to solve the serious problems of watertightness, water leaks and dampness that affected the facilities.

In addition, the Municipal Board of Fuencarral-El Pardo has allocated more than 86,000 euros for the remodeling of the changing rooms, the adaptation of the toilets to accessibility regulations -with the incorporation of emergency call systems, shower seats and support bars- and the modernization of the electrical installation. These improvements are in addition to other previous investments, such as the installation of fire safety systems, the improvement of the paddle tennis court turf and the chlorination of the indoor swimming pool.
The reopening has been celebrated with enthusiasm by the neighbors of the district, who have waited three summers without being able to enjoy these pools, the second most demanded in Madrid before their closure. The opening ceremony was attended by the Delegate of Works and Equipment, Paloma García Romero; the Delegate Councilor for Sports, Sonia Cea; the Councilor of Fuencarral-El Pardo, José Antonio Martínez Páramo; and Vicente del Bosque himself, former national soccer coach and the name that gives identity to the sports center.
This summer, Madrid will have all 25 municipal outdoor swimming pools open, in addition to five indoor pools, and new features have been implemented such as the ticket purchases via Bizum and free cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) workshops for users. The season will run until September 7 and the Arganzuela pool is also expected to reopen throughout the summer.
