There are few things worse than being of school age and in the middle of summer to hear about going back to school. But as every year, August threatens with the end of the heat and the beginning of classes. Madrid already has an official school calendar for the 2025-2026 academic year, regulated by the Community of Madrid and published in the Official Gazette. The course covers non-university educational centers supported with public funds, establishing specific dates for the beginning and end of classes, vacations, non-teaching periods and relevant holidays.
Key dates for the beginning and end of the academic year
- Nursery schools (first cycle, 0-3 years): from September 8, 2025 to July 31, 2026; in some centers, activities may start on September 5.
- Second cycle of Infant Education (3-6 years), Primary Education and Special Education: from September 8, 2025 to June 19, 2026.
- Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), Baccalaureate and Vocational Training: from September 9, 2025 to June 19, 2026.
- Adult Education Centers and other specific cycles: to be incorporated progressively from September 18.
School vacations 2025-2026
Christmas vacations: from December 20, 2025 to January 6, 2026 (both included).
Easter vacations: from March 28 to April 5, 2026 (both included).
Holidays and non-teaching days

In addition to the usual weekends, the following days will be considered non-teaching days:
- October 13, 2025 (Monday after October 12).
- November 3, 2025 (the Monday after All Saints’ Day)
- December 8, 2025 (Monday, Immaculate Conception)
- January 7, 2026 (post-Christmas vacation)
- March 27, 2026 (beginning of Easter Week)
- April 6, 2026 (Easter Monday)
- May 1 and 2, 2026 (Labor and Community Holiday)
- July 25, 2026 (regional holiday)
To these are added the local holidays determined by each municipality and published in the BOCM.
Evaluations and complementary activities
As reported by ANPE-Madrid, the final evaluation of Bachillerato and FP takes place on June 10, leaving the last days until June 19 for reinforcement activities, extraordinary tests and closing of the course. Second Baccalaureate concludes according to the university entrance exams calendar.
Teachers are active in the centers from September 1 to June 30 for preparation, evaluations and student attention.
Specifications and calendar for Nursery Schools
Nursery Schools have extra non-teaching days, which may vary depending on the network and the agreement, but in general only January 7 is scheduled as non-teaching outside weekends and national or regional holidays. Christmas vacations may start on December 24, depending on the type of center.
Flexible organization and local changes
The calendar includes the possibility of adjusting one of the non-teaching days to adapt to the center’s own celebrations, subject to agreement with the School Council, and allows for adaptation according to localities. Therefore, it is recommended that families consult their school’s or institute’ s definitive calendar in September to be sure of local holidays or patron saint’s day.
