The neighborhood of Rejas, in the district of San Blas-Canillejas, is in the midst of transforming its urban landscape with the arrival of a large public park scheduled to open in the fall of 2025. The project, led by the Madrid City Council, responds to a historic neighborhood demand and recovers for public use more than 13,300 square meters of hitherto undeveloped space.
One of the hallmarks of this new green lung will be its ambitious commitment to biodiversity: the park will have 70 trees of different species and more than 6,000 shrubs, distributed along pedestrian paths and walking areas that will provide shade. The intervention also includes the installation of two children’s play areas, benches, drinking fountains and new adapted rest areas.

San Blas-Canillejas will be greener
The works, which are expected to take six months, will include a small network of internal paths that will allow both daily strolls and neighborhood meetings, favoring the connection between different parts of the neighborhood and improving air quality, air conditioning and coexistence. The design prioritizes native vegetation and the recovery of biodiversity.
This new park, which is already under construction, will be joined by the remodeling of the green area of Calle de Estocolmo and the Paraíso park, all of which will contribute to the “regeneration of the district’s urban space”, according to the City Council.
