A Ciudad del Deporte project in which the news is the opening of a commercial and leisure area. The future complex of Atlético de Madrid next to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano grows as it does, in parallel, the feeling that perhaps sport is not going to have as much prominence as one would expect from its nomenclature.
This feeling is supported by concrete facts: in February 2025, as reported at the time by Cinco Días, the club presided over by Enrique Cerezo found in José Luis López Fernández (“El Turronero”) a capitalist partner to build the aforementioned commercial and leisure area.
With a contribution of 80 million euros between them, the space -called Nasas Madrid- is expected to have services such as a supermarket, bowling alley, children’s area, cinemas, restaurants and stores.
What will the Atleti Shopping Center be like?
Among the information available for consultation by Wit Retail -the company in charge of aspects such as urban planning and license management- it is detailed that the Gross Lettable Area (GLA) is 40,000 m² and that it has capacity for 1,500 parking spaces and 70 premises of different types: “food, gym, fashion, home, leisure, restaurants and others“.
According to El Mirador de Madrid, among the brands are Nike, Mango and Zara. On the other hand, the gym that will open in the complex, according to its own website, will be Fitness Park. Madrid Secreto has tried to contact Wit Retail, without obtaining a response at the time of publication of this article.
What the company does refer to is the expected opening date of the shopping center: it is marked on the calendar for the first four months of 2027. The same year in which the Colchoneros’ stadium will host the Champions League final.
The municipal facilities in the Ciudad del Deporte.

The Madrid City Council will allocate two plots of land – totaling an area of some 60,000 m² – to municipal sports facilities for the residents of San Blas-Canillejas, with an investment of 25 million euros.
Among the municipal facilities -whose works are expected to be finished in 2026- there will be an athletics track, two 11-a-side soccer fields, four indoor multi-sports courts and four paddle tennis courts.

The first stone of these works was laid last summer and the works are expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.
Regarding the other three plots of the complex, the red and white club will build on them “a high performance center for training and activity of the teams of the different categories of the club, a mini-stadium, paddle tennis courts and other sports activities”.
The impact on the neighborhood

According to the Madrid City Council, the project will have a positive impact on the neighborhood from different points of view, such as the creation of new accesses from the M-40 – “a historical neighborhood demand”- which will serve to decongest the area and allow better mobility. More than 30 million euros will be earmarked for this purpose.
In the words of the Madrid City Council, “it will have a positive impact with a sustainable and innovative approach in an enclave, hitherto underutilized, which is strategic for the transformation of the northeastern edge of Madrid”.
