In the middle of Callao square and under the neon lights of Gran Vía, Rosalía is performing live right now the first songs of her new album, Lux.
Moments before, from her Instagram account, the artist already made clear the magnitude of the moment: “I’ve been waiting for this day for three years,” she confessed in a video recorded from the car as she headed towards the square. In the same clip, Rosalía also mentioned having recently been at the concert of Guitarricadelafuente, an artist with whom she shares musical sensibility, and from whom she said she felt inspired.
A live performance between prayers, strings and music score
The performance, also streamed on TikTok and Instagram, seems to move away from Motomami’s explosive tone. Instead, Lux -whose release has been officially confirmed for November 7- is presented as an introspective work, with an almost sacred vocation. Rosalía herself already anticipated it weeks ago: it is an album made “without fear of failure”, after a long period of work in silence.
Now, while string arrangements sound under the sky of Madrid, the square has been taken over by hundreds of people. Some had come by intuition, others following the trail of the posters projected days before in Callao. And many others because of the urgency or sense of necessity generated by the live performance. No one was mistaken.
The present is already history
Before stepping on stage, in TikTok’s own live show, Rosalía showed certain or apparent anger in her live show when she discovered that the image announcing the launch of Lux had been leaked earlier than planned: “I open my mobile and I see that the reveal we were going to do has already been done“, she said with a serious gesture. Even so, he did not let that cloud the moment: his arrival at Callao has been cheered, chanted and celebrated as one of the great musical moments of the year in the city.
