May is just around the corner, a much-anticipated month in Madrid for the celebration of Community Day on Saturday the 2nd, as well as the feast day of its patron saint, San Isidro, on the 15th. To commemorate this, the Madrid Metro has released a new collection of caps featuring symbols of the city.
Thus, its merchandise catalog expands starting this week, with seven different models in which the Metro’s identity blends with that of the city’s iconic landmarks. Furthermore, the number 1919 stands out, as a reference to the year the suburban transit network was created.
Cibeles, the Puerta de Alcalá, and the Bear and the Strawberry Tree

All caps feature the iconic Metro diamond embroidered on the side and a front illustration showing a train alongside Madrid landmarks. Each design has its own color and highlights monuments such as the Bear and the Strawberry Tree, the Puerta de Alcalá, the Cibeles Fountain, the Puerta del Sol clock, the Metropolis building, and the Kio Towers.
As an exception, there is another model in beige corduroy that features no architectural emblem, but rather the seven stars of the Community of Madrid, emphasizing the link between the region and the Metro.
Where to buy the caps

The caps went on sale last Monday, April 27, for €24.95, as shown on their website. They can be purchased online, but also in person at the Metro stores in Ópera, Sol, and Plaza de Castilla.
Beyond being mere accessories, the designs reflect the presence of the Madrid Metro in the daily lives of its residents. As the metro company explains, “the metro connects neighborhoods, accompanies celebrations, and forms part of the shared identity of millions of Madrileños.”
With this new launch, the Madrid Metro is adding a new initiative to its store, as it has done in the past with products such as the watch featuring the colors of the twelve lines, its Christmas sweaters, and the sneakers commemorating the 105th anniversary.
