Families in Madrid can now mark a new day off on their calendars: Monday, November 2, will be a public holiday for both work and school in the Community of Madrid. There will be no classes that day due to the rescheduling of All Saints’ Day, which falls on Sunday, November 1, this year.
The decision guarantees a three-day holiday weekend for Madrid residents: from Saturday, October 31, through Monday, November 2. Classes will resume on Tuesday, November 3, following a weekend that will also coincide with Halloween and All Saints’ Day celebrations.
Why November 2 Is a Holiday
All Saints’ Day is celebrated on November 1, but in 2026 the date falls on a Sunday. To prevent the holiday from being absorbed into the weekend, the Community of Madrid has moved the day off to the following Monday, November 2.
Monday is listed as a non-school day on the official school calendar for the 2026–2027 school year. Therefore, this is not a day that individual schools can choose to close, nor is it a measure that depends on a school’s decision to close: the date applies generally to all schools in the region, although it is always advisable to check the specific school calendar for any particular organizational arrangements.
It won’t be the only break this fall

The November 2 long weekend comes just three weeks after the first long weekend of the school year. Monday , October 12—Spain’s National Day—will also be a holiday in Madrid, meaning residents will also be able to enjoy another three-day break, from Saturday, October 10, through Monday, October 12.
The first-quarter calendar still has more days off in store before the Christmas break. Monday, December 7, and Tuesday, December 8, will be non-school days, so families will have a four-day long weekend from Saturday, December 5, through Tuesday, December 8.
The Christmas school break will begin on December 23, 2026, and will last through January 10, 2027, both dates included. Next will be the Easter break, which will run from March 19 to 29, 2027.
